About Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club - Copperhead Course

Innisbrook Resort's Copperhead Course is one of the most celebrated public-access golf courses in Florida, and unquestionably the best track in the Tampa Bay area. Home to the PGA Tour's Valspar Championship (formerly Tampa Bay Championship), the Copperhead Course is a masterpiece of Larry Packard's design, featuring a routing through towering sand pines and oaks that creates a dramatically wooded, almost Augusta-like atmosphere. The course is famous for its demanding closing stretch — holes 16, 17, and 18 are known as the 'Snake Pit' and have decided multiple PGA Tour events. Elevation changes are pronounced by Florida standards, with significant drops and climbs through the pine forest. The greens are firm, fast, and heavily contoured. Winning here on Tour requires every shot. For public golfers, this is Florida's premier bucket-list round.

History

The Copperhead Course was designed by Larry Packard and opened at Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor in 1972. It became a PGA Tour stop in 2000 and has hosted the event — now known as the Valspar Championship — annually since. Over the decades the course has hosted numerous Tour winners and is considered the defining achievement of Packard's Florida portfolio. Innisbrook Resort itself dates to 1970.

Serious golfers who want to experience a genuine PGA Tour venue at championship conditions and test themselves on the legendary Snake Pit closing stretch.
