How to Book Pebble Beach Tee Times (and Other Bucket-List Courses)

Pebble Beach, Bethpage Black, and Torrey Pines are three of the most coveted public-access courses in the country. Each accepts outside play, but the path to a tee time is completely different at each one. If you have heard "you cannot get on" at any of them, it is usually because the person trying did not use the right system.

Pebble Beach Golf Links

Pebble Beach gives strong booking priority to overnight resort guests. There are two real paths:

• Resort guest (recommended): Guests of The Lodge at Pebble Beach or Casa Palmero can reserve a Pebble Beach tee time up to 18 months in advance with a 2-night minimum stay. Guests of The Inn at Spanish Bay get a 12-month window. Resort-guest greens fees are comparable to the non-resort rate — check the resort's published rates at booking, as pricing varies by date and season.

Pebble Beach also has a 14-day cancellation policy on the Links, Spyglass Hill, and Spanish Bay — long enough that close-in slot turnover is rare.

Easier sister courses: Spanish Bay (6 months out for non-guests), Spyglass Hill (3 months out), and Del Monte (year-round availability). Many travelers piece together a multi-day trip with one of those plus a single Pebble round.

Bethpage Black

Bethpage is a New York state-park course, and the booking system was rebuilt to favor verified NY residents and to defeat tee-time bots.

• Verified NY residents: Book 7 days in advance, starting at 7 PM ET. Verification requires a NY driver's license or non-driver ID submitted through the parks.ny.gov golf system.
• Non-residents: Book 5 days in advance, starting at 7 PM ET.
• Booking fee: $5 per player, non-refundable.
• Frequency cap: One Black Course reservation per 28 days per account.
• Walk-ups: The first 6 to 12 tee times of the day on the Black are reserved for walk-ons, plus one walk-up foursome per hour.
• Same-day: New same-day slots become available 3 hours before tee-off.

Torrey Pines

Torrey Pines is a San Diego municipal course with a 90-day booking window.

• San Diego residents: $32 per player non-refundable advance reservation fee. Need a $25/year City Resident Card.
• Non-residents: $50 per player non-refundable advance reservation fee. Slots release nightly at 7 PM PT.
• What gets released: Non-residents get less than 20% of total tee times. Cancelled resident times release to the non-resident pool 3 days before play, with the advance fee waived.
• Group bookings: Groups of 16 or more can book up to 24 months in advance.
• Cancellation: 48 hours out.

Torrey Pines weekend mornings 90 days from now can fill the same minute they release. Set a calendar reminder for 7:00 PM PT exactly 90 days out from your target date.

Other bucket-list courses worth knowing

• Pinehurst No. 2 (NC): Book through a Pinehurst Resort stay-and-play package; non-resort booking is very limited.
• Whistling Straits (WI): Open to outside play; book up to a year in advance through Destination Kohler.
• TPC Sawgrass (FL): Open to the public; book 90 days out through the resort.
• Erin Hills (WI): Public; book up to a year out.

These courses do not have residency restrictions, but their booking windows can be a year or more, so plan early.

The 24-48 hour cancellation window
